Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving: Indirect Warp
Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving: Indirect Warp – $220.00
Instructor: Stephanie Hill
Rigid heddle looms are simple low cost looms that are suitable for a multitude of woven textiles including scarves, shawls, placements, dish towels, and fabric for clothing or other sewing projects. In this class, we provide the looms and equipment you need for class so you can decide if you enjoy weaving before you invest in a loom. The skills and techniques learned in this class are transferable to other types of looms.
In this class you will complete 2 projects, to help you learn:
- Basic weaving terminology
- How to use a warping board
- How dress a rigid heddle loom
- How to estimate yarn quantities for weaving projects
- Differences in rigid heddle looms made by various manufacturers
Student use of looms and accessories in class and at home between classes is included in the class. A refundable security deposit is required on the first day of class and will be returned on the last day when all equipment has been returned in good condition.
Students who have their own rigid heddle looms, should bring the looms and related accessories to the first day of class for the instructor to review and verify they are in good working order. Please let us know when you sign up if you have your own loom you would like to use in class. Please tell us the type of loom you have and the size (i.e. Schacht Flip, 15”, Ashford Knitter’s Loom, 28”, etc.).
Project 1 – Vintage Striations: Yarn for project is included in class cost. Students must select colors prior to the first class meeting.
Project 2 – Hound’s Tooth: Yarn is not included in class cost. Students will select and purchase yarn with guidance from the instructor. (Cost will vary from approx $15-$40. Stash yarn may be used if approved by instructor.)
